High pressure sodium light bulbs are a type of lighting
called HID or high intensity discharge. Some other kinds of HID lighting
are metal halide, mercury vapor and low pressure sodium. High pressure
sodium lamps have generally a greater light output, golden white light
(sometimes people say yellowish) and require special ballasts and fixtures
for each specific lamp. High pressure sodium light bulbs are often used
in industrial, security and roadway lighting because of their energy efficiency.
